Metalist Kharkov vs PSV Eindhoven
Kharkov is all excited as the European football is coming back to the city!
The dramatic and excited game with FC Omonia (Cypress) when Metalist were losing 0-2 and then draw 2-2 and went through to the Europa League group stage was very fortunate. FC Metalist is in the Europa League this year and for all citizens it means a lot of quality football and great evenings in newly renovated stadium in Kharkiv.
Now everyone is looking forward to 30th of September, this is the date of the first match in the Europa League for Metalist against PSV Eindhoven.
So what do we know about PSV Eindhoven? First of all we are talking about one of the strongest Dutch team alongside with AFC Ajax and Feyenoord Rotterdam.
PSV Eindhoven was found in 1913 and since then the club won the Dutch league twenty one times though Ajax was luckier being a champion for even twenty nine times! Apart from that PSV Eindhoven also won the UEFA Cup in 1978 and the European Cup in 1988.
PSV Eindhoven is a club where many successful players made their name such as Romario, Ronaldo, Jaap Stam, Ruud van Nistelrooy and so on. Obviously, the club has some financial problems and the best players always go somewhere else to play. There were many famous couches leading the club such as Guus Hiddink, Bobby Robson and Dick Advocaat.
Guus Hiddink is probably the most successful coach of PSV Eindhoven. He was coaching in 1987-1990 and won the European Cup for the first and for now the last time in their history. Hiddink came back in 2002 after a very successful World Cup when he was a coach of South Korea which left the tournament being fourth. PSV Eindhoven had a great team at that time: Arjen Robben, Mark van Bommel, Phillip Cocu, Park Ji-Sung. They were playing each year in the Champions League but could not get very far and Hiddink had to leave in 2006 for the second time.
Despite the fact that the Netherlands is such a tiny country we it always produces a lot of successful players. Unfortunately, the Dutch clubs cannot compete with the biggest clubs and plenty of players are leaving as soon as they become famous. PSV Eindhoven is a big club with a name in the football world and has a lot of talented players and it is up to Metalist now if they will be able to use all their power and technic against the Ukrainian team.
PSV Eindhoven know how to play with former Soviet Union football teams. The most recent game was against FC Sibir Novosibirsk and the Dutch team won 5-0 and didn’t leave any changes for the Russian team.
It is a good time to see what PSV Eindhoven can do against the Ukrainian team which is inviting all of us 30th of September for a great spectacle at Metalist Arena!
